Learning to Fly Again
who seriously fucking had more patience that anyone I know, to be able to reply to some of the ignorance she is receiving. Seriously, some people are living a mythical land that hasn’t moved since the first…
Can I just add that my biggest problem is with African Americans who just want to stroll into some African country and have everybody accept them and be treated specially. Meanwhile, those same African Americans DON’T WANT TO LEARN THE LANGUAGE OR THE CULTURE. They just want to pick out the glamourous parts of being African (That’s why a lot of them are DETERMINED to claim Egypt in spite of the fact that the number of African Americans that could ever have any kind of genetic connection to Egypt is less than 0.00000001% ).
They don’t want to make ANY effort at all. They just want “African Identity in a Box” that they can conveniently open when it suits them and close it and put it back on the shelf when it’s inconvenient.
I empathise with what African Americans went through (and people on our side suffered immensely too from lost family members) but if you’re African American and you’re trying to claim African identity and you’re willing to spend your energy and time to learn French or Spanish and you can’t spend the same energy and time to learn to speak Igbo or Yoruba or Akan PROPERLY and learn about and respect the people of the culture you’re trying to parade about then you need to FALL THE FUCK BACK.
